- Radon does not cause :
- itchy skin
- chronic cough
- emphysema
- asthma
- Radon and Radon Decay Products (RDPs) are known human carcinogens.
- The energy absorbed into the human body as a result of exposure to radiation is called the absorbed dose. The absorbed dose, particularly that carried by alpha particles from PDRs, can damage living tissue, including the lungs (see: Health Canada)
- The total effective dose transported comes from 97% of the PDRs (Polonium 218 and Lead 214) and about 3% from radon . Note that the PDRs produced by radon are solids.
- When you breathe in and out, a significant fraction of the PDR is not evacuated and the effect is cumulative with each breath.
- Radiation affects DNA in the lungs, causing cancer.
